Recently recognized as a Western Pennsylvania Small Business Financial Services Champion by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Dennis Piper brings over 30 years of expert accounting experience to his firm, Dennis Piper & Associates, P.C., founded in 1993.
A Pittsburgh-based CPA, Dennis has helped many corporations, individuals, partnerships, limited liability companies, estates and trusts, non-profits and pension and profit-sharing plans. He and his firm provide exceptional business advisory, tax compliance and tax consulting services to their clients. Most importantly, they create strong partnerships by taking the time to fully understand and meet their clients’ business operations, information and accounting goals.
Dennis is a top QuickBooks trainer, holding Advanced Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor® and Certified Enterprise Solution ProAdvisor® titles. He and his team offer comprehensive QuickBooks training and ongoing computer system support services.
In addition to his leadership roles at the company, Dennis also sits on the Board of Directors for a regional communications company, Laurel Highlands Total Communications, Inc., a growing internet, TV and radio conglomerate.
Before starting his firm, Dennis served as controller for a large distribution company. This experience gave him clear insight into what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur and business leader. He believes that his firm’s success is directly dependent on his customers’ success, and he works every day to help his customers thrive.
Brian Beerman, CPA
Brian directs our assurance and business advisory practice under the firm Beerman, Piper & Associates, LLC. Brian has 30 years of experience, including 16 years
with the assurance and business advisory practice of the national accounting firm, Ernst & Young. Brian has performed the audits of many publicly and privately held companies in a variety of industries including technology, manufacturing, energy, distribution, and non-profit. Brian also provides advisory services on a wide array of business and accounting issues including business acquisitions and divestitures, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, profit improvement initiatives, and internal audit.
Marian Linton, CPA
Marian Linton is a Pittsburgh Certified Public Accountant who is the lead instructor for QuickBooks Seminars. She partners with several of the regions top Small Business Development Centers including Duquesne University and St. Vincent College to enhance the use of QuickBooks for the business and nonprofit professional. Marian has over 25 years of diverse accounting experience, which includes general accounting, cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial and management reporting, federal and multi-state taxes, and personal computer applications. Prior to working with Dennis Piper & Associates, Marian was the General Accounting Manager for MetPath Laboratories, a medical reference laboratory.
Debra Shutak, CPA
Twenty years plus progressive experience in public accounting encompassing all aspects of accounting, taxes, and payroll services. As the Tax Manager of Client Accounting for TruServ Corporation, Debra gained valuable experience performing personal and business tax compliance and payroll applications for all fifty states. Previous management of a medical laboratory payroll provided experience in complex payroll applications including multistate, pretax & various fringe benefit payroll issues. Multi-company acquisitions provided experience in blending various payroll applications and schedules to one integrated payroll and schedule.
Shamus Brennan, CPA
Shamus Brennan is a CPA with over 15 years of public accounting experience at both a Big 4 firm as well as a large regional firm. His areas of concentration are tax compliance and consulting for high net worth individuals and closely-held businesses. Shamus specializes in the Real Estate industry with experience advising and servicing some of the area’s largest developers, owners and investors. Shamus has a BS in Mathematics Education from Waynesburg University and an Advanced Certificate in Accounting from Robert Morris University. Shamus is a member of the American Institute of Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Public Accountants.
Shannon Waldron, CPA, CGMA
Shannon Waldron has over 18 years of experience in both public and corporate accounting. Areas of experience include internal and external audit, IT, and consulting in a variety of industries. She has held controllership and management positions in the retail, service, HVAC, real estate and banking industries, as well as entrepreneurial ventures and franchise ownership. Shannon graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1991 and is also a Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor. Shannon is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants and a Chartered Global Management Accountant.
Lisa Henson, CPA
Lisa has over 28 years of accounting experience mainly in the natural resources field. She also has experience in governmental contracts and manufacturing. She has extensive management experience with 16 years of CFO and Controllership roles. Her experience encompasses many areas including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, human resources, payroll, benefits plans, and IT. Lisa graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1988 and obtained her MBA from West Virginia University in 1995.
Cleveland Piper, E.A.
Cleveland has been an Enrolled Agent to practice for the IRS for ten years. He has 14 years of experience working as a Controller and Tax Accountant in the state of Maryland. Cleveland’s previous employment has included working as the Controller for J. H. Burton & Sons, Inc. Cleveland graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Business Administration & Management.
Leslie has over 25 years of accounting experience in the architectural, engineering and non-profit fields. Her accounting experience includes payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections, financial statements, project management reporting, budgeting, and cash management. Prior to coming to Dennis Piper & Associates in 2008, Leslie was the office manager for Lami Grubb Architects, LP.
Cathy has over 25 years of accounting experience with clients in a variety of industries, including retail, service, construction and non-profit. Prior to starting at Dennis Piper & Associates 8 years ago, she was an Accountant for Bookminders, Inc. Cathy graduated from Robert Morris University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
Alicia has been with Dennis Piper & Associates for three years and also brings over six years of experience in the construction industry and office administration. Alicia serves multiple roles at our firm including Staff Accountant and Office Manager. As a Staff Accountant, she is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and works with many clients performing payroll, monthly accounting services and tax preparation. She also manages the Dennis Piper & Associates office including client services, office administration, accounts receivable, accounts payable and human resources.

Mary comes to Dennis Piper & Associates with a BS in Business Administration/Accounting from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She has 15 years of experience as a staff accountant in two hospital and rehabilitation systems in the Pittsburgh area. In addition, Mary was self-employed for 14 years providing accounting and payroll services for small to medium-sized businesses. Her experience encompasses all aspects of accounting from general ledger, financial statement and budget analysis to management and controllership responsibilities including accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll applications. Mary has served as a tax preparer and provided tax planning to individuals in a variety of tax situations. Mary has 15 years of experience working with QuickBooks.
Kim comes to Dennis Piper & Associates with over 20 years experience in finance and administration. A graduate in Business Administration from New Kensington Commerical School, Kim brings with her a diverse knowledge of numerous computer applications, bookkeeping and office management. She is a Certified Pennsylvania Public Notary and a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
Michelle comes to Dennis Piper and Associates with more than 20 years’ working in financial accounting with more than 8 years in a controllership position. Additionally, she has over 9 years’ experience managing Human Resources. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Business Management/Accounting, her resume includes international business, project accounting and government contracting. She’s worked with various industries including engineering, non-profit, healthcare, and professional services. Michelle has used QuickBooks for over 10 years and has experience with ERP systems as well. She is a Certified ProAdvisor in QuickBooks Online, Desktop and Enterprise.
